Bylaw officer Al Roy reports a year of dog related concerns and trailer issues from November 21 2023 to October 29 2024. Dogs topped the cases with 48 incidents followed by 41 trailer related concerns many about unhooked units. Parking infringements untidy yards and garbage also appeared while rare items included badger activity snow blocked sidewalks and noise or party complaints.
Firefighters at the Community Fire Hall explored EV fire risks during a training session featuring a Tesla and a Maple Creek Stucco and Stone truck. The Tesla was stripped to reveal wiring, highlighting the battery pack with 16 modules and many cells, as lead instructor Kevin Patterson from EV-X Inc. explained.
Election Day at Maple Creek Armoury saw residents vote for up to six town councillors from seven candidates. Incumbents Tina Cresswell Len Barkman Betty Abbott and Leah Baratta ran alongside Corrine Collura Hans Martens and Shane Wurtz. Mayor Michelle McKenzie was re-elected by acclamation. Jill Roy and Al Fournier did not seek re-election. Polls were open 9 am to 8 pm.
Outgoing councillor Al Fournier thanked the community for support and wished colleagues luck. He praised the new candidates Corrine Collura Hans Martens and Shane Wurtz and noted continued coverage on page 3.
