Manila Council orders gutting of box thorn in municipality
At the last Manila Municipal Council meeting it was agreed the Council would enforce its decision to compel the gutting of box thorn within the municipality. Alderman Wilshire noted some residents had destroyed the post while others had not. The Acting Mayor Ald. A R Macleod said occupiers were responsible for destruction, with owners liable if no occupier existed. Reporting to Mandowa Shire Council, Mr e Bugither and Drs Byrnes and Mr Park inspected a proposed road over the gap to Hulls Creek bridge. The route via Mr Pitimin’s property was impractical due to steep grades and erosion, with an alternative through Reid Hull and Bell. The recommendation was to abandon the road plan over the gap and maintain the existing crossing over Hall’s Creek, which has been kept clear and passable. Park noted the inspection showed road through to the bridge was out of the question due to gullies, though a creek crossing could be added with minor cost. In case of sickness or emergency, access through private property was provided to prevent isolation. Byrnes warned the situation was deceiving and that building a road to the bridge was unnecessary, given the gullying and expense.
