A letter to Tamworth MP W A Chaffey from Transport Minister E Wetherell confirms Main Roads will fund four miles of bitumen surfacing on Trunk Road No 63 from Manilla north toward Barraba in 1955 56. Council may seek extending sealing to Upper Manilla beyond the post office to the Manilla River bridge.

Fuel thefts hit council road plants
At a Friday meeting Engineer Mr A H Jociynson said fuel for Council road plants was repeatedly stolen. Reports cite August 20 when 54 gallons of kerosene were taken from a grader on a New Mexico roadside, and September 10 when 30 gallons of diesel vanished from a Somerton road grader. Police have been notified.
