Manilla Council Grants Use of Ground and Discusses Local Issues

At the Manilla Municipal Council meeting the Cricket Association use of the recreation ground was approved under prior terms, with a possible Boxing Day reservation noted. The council thanked the Cricket and Football bodies for consent on alterations and considered road enclosure by Mr G. M. Hall’s representative. Eradication of prickly pear and Paterson's curse was discussed, with calls to employ relief schemes. The council reviewed boiler inspection concerns, past due rates, and building applications, and adopted a Works Committee plan for next fortnight relief and street works. A sermon and prizes were announced by Rev. J. B. Fulton with youth prizes awarded for reports on the Little Syrian Maid.

The council adopted orders to remove a pepper tree before Mr R M Smith’s residence and an old dangerous Namoi street box tree. A dangerous Arthur street pepper tree and drainage queries for Carmarthen Kennedy streets and River street were referred to committees. Kangaroos beat Mdham 38 to 6. Wallabies lost 4–nil in South African tour finale. Newtown won the Sydney football league title over St George. A Sydney education reform commission considers the Little Syrian Maid teaching aims focusing on adaptability observance sympathy reliability promptitude and faithfulness.
