Fares and Freights Raise Rail War Freight Concerns
At the annual New South Wales Country Press Association conference in Glen Innes, Mr. Sommeriad from Glen Innes argued that flour millers can land flour at two shillings fewer than local mills can produce. He criticized the railway freight system as unsympathetic and pernicious, while others cited victimisation of country producers. One speaker suggested cartage at 15 to 16 shillings a ton for 600 miles is not harsh. The conference urged government to equalize metropolitan and country fares and urged consideration of rail war freights by the new executive.
