Manilla Society Discusses Fodder Conservation Competition

At a Show Committee meeting in Manilla a Rural Agricultural Society secretary urged continuing fodder conservation contests. Debate centered on counting bagged wheat as fodder, with some arguing it inflates scores while others see silos and storage as fodder reserves for drought, leaving the matter unsettled.

Special purchase and lease for Mandowshire saleyard site

The council discussed a special purchase of an area of acres forming the northern part of portion 226 Parish Ven ean for a saleyard wire out of the stock reserve and a special lease of 15 acres fenced into three peddocks. An advance to fund yard construction is sought from the Department of Local Government with plans and cost estimates prepared.

Special prize for best bushel of wheat at harvesting show

As harvesting begins the Society offers a trophy valued at £2 2s for the best bushel of wheat taken from the header during harvest. No entry fee. the Society keeps the exhibit. Last year entries were high and organizers urge more help from committeemen and show supporters to boost entries and prizes. A schedule for donations is in preparation and donations of special prizes are welcome through the secretary. Also 40 new horse stalls costing about £150 will be erected before the show with donors invited to help defray building costs.

Sheep and Cattle Market Report From Monday Sale

At our sale on Monday the average quality was fair with prime descriptions unaltered while others were weaker. A total of 46229 sheep and lambs were penned and cattle offered totalled 3174. Weether s sold to 17/4, lambs to 24/-, bogets 18/10, cows 10/87, bullocks to 19/18, vealers 9/8.
