Tar Paving of Streets to Begin and Costs

The Town Clerk announces tar paving work for 1952 begins next week with watering and rolling, followed by priming and sealing, to finish by December 5. Estimated cost £2,600, half funded by the Department of Public Works. 1953 plans include Arthur Street, Rowan Street, and Market Street paving at an estimated £2,000, with £1,000 requested from the Minister for Public Works.

Special general meeting of Manilla RSS branch

Members are reminded of a special general meeting in the supper room at Memorial Hall on Friday night November 21 to consider plans and estimates for proposed new club rooms in Straf ford street. Ways and means to raise finance will also be discussed.

Southbrook Settlers Association Formed at Meeting

About 18 residents gathered at Mechanics Institute to form the Southbrook Settlers Association. Officers elected: President K May, vice presidents W G Hall and P M Hughes, secretary Stan Goldthorpe, treasurer D Riddell. Boundaries set as South Street, railway, Namoi River with meetings monthly at the Stengert residence. Next meeting December 12. The council to be asked to accept a deputation on street work and drainage. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs Faulkner of North Manila Progress Association.

Lunch Hour Change Proposed By Manilla Groups

The Manilla Graziers Association proposed closing shops and offices half an hour earlier for lunch. Currently lunch is 1 pm to 2 pm. the suggested time is 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. The change aims to give country customers more afternoon time and align with school lunch hours for housewives.

Mr D H Drummond MAR during a tour of the Southern end of the New England Electorate will visit Manila on Thursday November 20 and may be interviewed at Dove and Hunts office from 2 pm. Fifty seven countries now give women equal voting rights with men.
