Demonetizing Presses Against National Socialism Tax Plan
The passage denounces a government pension proposal as a step toward national socialism and a tax on thrifty youth. It argues benefits are negligible compared with voluntary schemes, and warns the plan would harm industry amid a deepening depression paralleling 1932-33 hardships.
Manilla water debt refinance approved by council
The Municipal Council accepted a ministerial proposal to extend the outstanding Manilla water scheme debt over up to 45 years, reducing annual capital and interest repayments from £794 to £587 and cutting the annual renewal fund, with potential further rate relief. The plan lowers per capita rates and could yield around 20 percent future rate reductions. Also noted is a 1938 water rate cut from 4s 10d to 3s 9d in the pound on unimproved capital values. The council adopted the proposal. The article also covers the Manilla Country Women’s Association 11th birthday party at Memorial Hall with members from Tamworth attending and a social afternoon.
