Word reached Manilla on Friday morning that Private Roy Blackwell was killed in action in New Guinea. He was among the first Manilla men to depart Australia for the Middle East in 1940, serving in Libya and Tobruk, then Greece. War Loan Rally Set After Narromine Challenge Accepted
Narromine council unanimously agreed to accept the Manilla challenge for the War Loan. Manilla's and Narromine's towns each have about 5000 residents. Maclean reports £8000 from 48 subscribers, while Narromine notes £8000 to date and Manilla £5000 last Friday. Barely a third of the course is covered. figures will be published next issue. The big War Loan rally is scheduled for December 8.

Local Red Cross Appeals in Manila Red Cross Day planned
A statewide Red Cross drive funds sick and wounded soldiers and related work. Manila marks Red Cross Day on Saturday November 28 with badge sales 1/5 2/-, 5/- 10/- and £1, and a street stall. Donations of cash poultry produce cars and gifts are invited and may be left with the secretary or Mr G L Wilshire or Clifton's Pty Ltd. A card and checkers party is set for Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with cakes for afternoon tea and admission 2/-. sugar for gifts can be arranged via the Hon secretary. Proceeds until the appeal closes count as votes for Miss Manila in Miss Red Cross. Next branch meeting December 12 at 4:30 Penn noted with change of date and time.
