The Manilla Business Mens Association discussed meat works for Manilla with plans to approach the SCE Shire Councils and local bodies for cooperation. They also outlined a case to improve Manilla Police Station and sought housing library and broadcasting facility considerations from authorities and councils.
In reply to Mr J Cole the Mayor stated the Municipal Council can supply and control electricity for the National Broadcasting Station at Manilla as soon as required. Mandowa Shire backs a nearby landing site with the Municipal Council and local business group. Sewerage surveys are complete and the plan sits at No 11 priority. An extra Sydney-bound Xmas train is sought for Dec 23. Consideration is given to sale days outside weekly half holiday to aid country shoppers. Requests await Railway Dept action on water for truck yards and a tree planting scheme. Public telephones may be placed at Southbrook West Manilla and North Manilla.
In Federal Parliament Mr J P Abbott pressed to remove the embargo on 14 inch wire netting. He noted a War Organisation of Industry rule restricting manufacture to 14 inch gauge, creating hardship for NSW grazers using rabbit proof fencing at 12 inch under the Pastoralists Protection Act and asked ministers to intervene.
The Boy Scouts announce a boxing program slated to begin December 1 at the Palais Theatre. Promoters promise top talent from within one hundred miles and several bouts have already been booked with more expected, promising a wonderful night of entertainment for Manila and surrounding district.
