A zots was meant to be the star at the NQ Bush Naturalists Club the other week but it swallowed a wallaby and its digestive system rebelled at the oversized meal. The creature then crossed the border within 24 hours, dismaying its captors.
The November meeting at Manilla Race Club drew a good crowd with Bar ra owned Knarda winning the principal event and Nation Land taking the Progressive Handicap. Maiden Two-year-old Stakes saw Eric Flett tutor six of seven starters and Lady Trevallyn led early in First Improvers before winning by six lengths. Gypsy Lou captured the Maiden Two-year-old Stakes with Gipsy Lou beating Miss Golden and Solo Flyer, marking apprentice W Whitten's first verified win. Frosty Lad won the Makeen Handicap in a tight finish, while Nation Land easily beat Caprona in the Progressive. Gold Val narrowly led late to win the Second Improvers Handicap as Ann Marie edged Scotch Tonic for a neck margin.
Tamworth defeated Manilla by 22 runs in the North and North West Council War Veterans Cup opener. Manilla’s G Russell took 5 for 35 and H Martin 4 for 54 as Manilla collapsed to 83, then rallied to 150 with Russell 31 and Martin 36 not out. Bourke Thompson and George bowled well for Tamworth. Also notes lighter wool clip and St Leger-like horse racing results in Kenarda and Nation Land sections.
