Additions To Nurses Quarters At Manilla Hospital

On a visit to Sydney the Secretary of the Manilla Hospital Mr L Wilshire met with Tamworth MP Mr W A Chaffey at Parliament House regarding additions to Manilla Hospital. Chaffey contacted Mr Stinson of the Hospitals Commission and Health Minister Mr M O Sullivan about the project. It is advised tenders have been called for the additions and £15000 was allocated for 1954/55, though the Hospital Board has not yet received official confirmation. Professor Walter Murdoch notes that science has not filled the gap left by a retreat from religion.

Retention Of Surplus Opposed In Wheat Fund Vote

The Manilla branch of the Farmers and Settlers Association will ask the Federal Member for New England to oppose the Governments plan to retain any surplus in the five year Wheat Stabilisation Fund. Mr R V Goulton led the motion saying funds at close of the period belong to growers and should be returned. The motion, seconded by Mr L Bowman, was carried unanimously.

Opposition to Oat Pool by Manilla Branch grows

The Manilla Branch of the New South Wales Farmers and Settlers Association votes against a proposed three state Oat Pool to compulsorily acquire and market oats. The branch cites higher NSW prices, storage and grain protection issues, and opposition to forming another board. The decision follows a circular from Head Office and recent discussions among rural organisations.

Manilla court fines driver for failing to report accident

Oscar G. Wicks was fined £3 at the Manilla Court of Petty Sessions for failing to report an accident on the Manilla Somerton road when a front tyre blew at about 7 p.m. on a steep hill. The owner William B. Roach rode as a passenger and the driver lacked a license, which he also faced fines for.
