Largest Walnut Log Cut On Atherton Tableland

A huge walnut tree, said to be the largest felled on the Atherton Tableland, was cut in the Middle Brook district by Messrs. McHugh and Battle. The butt log measured 26 feet in girth, top log 15 feet 10 inches, producing six logs totaling 15 000 super feet. The butt log could not be rail carriageable to Cairns due to tunnel size, complicating sale. Also, A B Piddington KC denounces greyhound racing as worthless and accuses youths of chasing cars to train dogs.
