Stamp Duties Amendment Bill Introduced in Assembly
Considerable increases in transfer and death duties are proposed by the Stamp Duties Amendment Bill. The old act exempted estates up to £1000 from death duty. rates rose to 2 per cent from £1000 to £2000 and to 15 per cent for estates of £100,000, with a 20 per cent maximum over £150,000. The bill fixes final balance duties for NSW-domiciled estates at 2 per cent up to £100,000 and up to 25 per cent over £100,000, while non NSW-domiciled estates start at 1 per cent up to £500 and rise to 25 per cent over £75,000. Heavy rain forecast for Victoria and NSW.
