Public meeting protests high rates in Manilla

A large crowd gathers at a Manilla Labor League convened meeting to protest the municipal rates for 1952. The Mayor and council members explain the rate structure across Funds including Electricity Water and Sewerage, while residents challenge how UCV figures drive increases and urge a deputation to review figures and policy.

Town notes on death of King George VI and council meeting

The town clerk reports a message from the Secretary at Canberra expressing sympathy on the death of King George VI. Debates cover rate rises, basic wage provisions for 1952, ratepayer payment difficulties, and sewerage installation, with a seven-member deputation to study figures and report back. A motion of thanks to Mr Harrison for use of the Palais is carried.

School Show Highlights Community Involvement And Overcrowding

At the annual show the School showcased its role for the surrounding area. The General Activity Class led by Mr J A Haining surveyed services, mapped routes covering 400 sq miles, and displayed data under Do You Know This About Your School. The exhibit featured student drawings on bus travel, activities with Rotary, radio listening, films, cooking, and manual work. Enrolment trends and rising infant department funding were shown, alongside concern over overcrowding and inadequate classrooms. Models from Kindergarten to Secondary, a homemade theodolite, and numerous crafts and foods illustrated student effort and community links.
