Wool Market Opens With Firm Brisbane Closing Rates

The Farmers and Graziers Co operative reports a strong opening final auction in Brisbane on the 14th with animated competition from the Continent and Japan, supported by Yorkshire. Prices for well-grown wools remain firm at May closing levels. averages are near 5 per cent lower. Inferior sorts show weak, irregular demand while Sydney closing rates remain fully firm. Melbourne auctions closed on the 15th with satisfactory clearances. few longer sleeve tools in demand but faulty lots meet irregular demand. Commonwealth production for 1938/39 is tentatively set at 2,970,000 bales with 2,700,000 bales to be submitted. 1,450,000 to be sent before Christmas. Opening dates: Sydney August 20, Adelaide September 1, Brisbane September 14, Perth 72th, Melbourne 21th.
