At the annual meeting in Sydney last week V J Byrnes was chosen president amid a tight preferential ballot. Contenders included W J Byrnes of Manilla Albert Wheatley of Goulburn and H Calthorpe of Queenbeyan. A subsequent dinner praised his achievement and his family landholds in Manilla were highlighted. Graziers also conveyed congratulations as Byrnes welcomed the new leadership of the Stock and Station Agents Association of NSW.

Agri Chief cites wire netting production limits
The Director-General of Agriculture Mr Bulcock quotes the Materials Supply Directorate stating wire production is limited due to manpower shortages. They explain that increasing to 14 mesh would reduce output by about 25 percent and that 13 mesh remains the favored option for distribution across states. Amazing Escape Former Manilla Pilot Returns to Sydney
Warrant officer Ted Coates, a Wellington bomber pilot and ex Bank of NSW staffer, arrived in Sydney after a 53 day escape across occupied Europe. Shot down on his 33rd mission, he walked, cycled, stole food, and rode trains to safety, surviving shell fragments and limited language. He is the son of Canon Coates of Barraba and once a Manilla cricket enthusiast.
