Ronald John Green of Narrabeen the driver and R Payne of Collaroy escaped uninjured but shaken after a car overturned about 4 30 pm Tuesday nine miles north of Manilla. The off side rear tire blew out causing the skid and a 41 yard slide before the vehicle ended up on its hood in a roadside ditch.
In the latest Bowls Notes there is little competitive action with few games played. Davidson Cup holders F Coorey J Byrnes J Gore and T Davis lost the cup to Jack Cocking’s rebuilt rink. Manilla hosted the Geo A Greaves Cup, where Manilla defeated Barraca 27-22 in a thrilling match, with other results including 28-22 and 34-12 scorelines and a 25-25 draw.
The Hon. E. H. Graham announced that Junior Farmers schools will be held at Hawkesbury Agricultural College Richmond starting 21 June and at Wagen Agricultural College starting 28 June. Short courses will cover poultry farming vegetable growing agronomy and animal husbandry with thirty boys to attend Hawkesbury and fifteen at Wagga.
After four rounds in the Tamworth District League West Tamworth leads first grade by one point over Armidale and shares the top of the reserve grade with Walcha. Second and junior grades show West Tamworth and Armidale holding strong positions, with several other clubs close behind.
The Methodist Y P Club held its 24th banquet in the Sunday School hall with Roy Heywood presiding. Miss Zillah Brock, longtime overseas mission nurse, spoke on club fellowship and Pacific life while Rev. Emms and Rev. Layton offered toasts. A varied program included music, a humorous skit, and a candlelight tribute to war dead, ending with Mizpah benediction.
The Church of England holds HC services at 7 30 am in Manilla and 11 am in Milliwindi with an Evensong at 1 30 pm in Manilla and 3 pm in Somerton. Methodist Manilla hosts 11 am and 7 30 pm services with a special family service at night led by Rev H J Aimms. Presbyterian readings note Sunday School at 16 am in Manilla and Divine worship at 11 am and 7 30 pm, Somerton at 3 pm, led by Rev John Mitchell.
Rain began in Manilla around 8 45 pm on Wednesday and continued off and on overnight. By 9 am Thursday total rainfall stood at 18 points with no new rain since then. More rain is expected and needed to allow sowing to start in the district.
