Garden Defends Machines and Jobs in Tabor Platform Debate

Mayor presided as Mr Garden traveled from Sydney to address four or more listeners. He argued machines augment production and cut costs but must not displace workers, citing cork tipper machines, a book keeping machine at Anthony Horderns, and 200 navvies losing work to a steam shovel. He urged profits be shared as higher wages and shorter hours, warned against Lang and Premiers Plans, and appealed for support for Tabor candidate Mr Normoyle.
