Manilla Show Committee Maps Planting Scheme and Rules

The Manilla Show Committee met Saturday with president W. J. Byrnes and many members present. They discussed prize donations, judges for 1934, and reducing district horse travel. A detailed tree-planting plan for show grounds was approved with replacements and cost estimates, subject to cassia replacing oleander, and reports to Municipal Council.

Deputation Urges Special Rules for Basher Gangs

A deputation pressed Mr L. Martin to favor preferential treatment for basher gangs, asking they be kept apart from ordinary criminals, allowed literature, extra food, and to wear casual clothes. Martin rejected the idea, stressing that law must apply to all and that authorities will not weaken the rule of law.

Provinces ban violent language in British films

Mr Herbert Wilcox told News-Chronicle that the British and Dominion Company will ban violent language in films. He said Leeds patrons questioned why words like blast were used and cinema managers noted the view is common in the provinces. He added audiences idolize stars and are disappointed by strong language.

Hastings River Suspension Bridge Opens Near Wauchope

About 30 miles from Wauchope Minister for Justice L. O. Martin officially opened the Hastings River suspension bridge last Saturday afternoon. The 300 plus foot long structure is the states first of its kind, suspended on steel cables between concrete piers and designed for all vehicular traffic with minimal vibration. The ribbon was cut by Joan Coombes, the district’s oldest living identity, who settled there 74 years ago today.
