The Manilla News records that the Minister for Health has reappointed in the Hospitals Commission: a woman Shankl is to be appointed to each board, with one government nominee among the four members. The notice appears in the Manilla Express printed by local publishers.
The Queensland Council of Churches plans a petition to the Government and a 25 000 pamphlet print run to campaign against gambling and the Golden Casket. A deputation will seek a scheme to fund hospitals without lotteries, possibly routing threepence of each shilling in unemployment relief. A Brisbane Synod vote condemned gambling, while church leaders argued about individual rights and economic impacts.
Wellington pilot J Fraser leaped from an aeroplane with a parachute that opened in an air pocket forcing him upward 2000 feet. After 25 minutes he regained control and landed exhausted. Sir Charles Kingeford-Smith described a Christchurch to Wellington flight where air currents shot the plane upward to 70000 feet despite the engine running.
An aboriginal couple, Robert Silva and Mildred Barth olomew, wed near Urunga on the Yellow Rock reserve. Rev Manny officiated as guests, bridesmaids, and train-bearers attended. A gum leaf band and homemade violins, banjos, and steel guitars provided music, including an aboriginal jazz band, with all instruments built by the makers.
The scope of Al satian dogs used by the police is to be widened to the waterfront. Commissioner Mr Childs says dogs trained in the police garage reserve at Alexandria will now be on duty around the waterfront with trainers in divisions 1 and 4 Clarence Street and Phillip Nyrood’s cure for coughs and colds.
The death occurred at Scone of David McDonald of Carlyle Bunnan aged 73. Son of the late John McDonald he helped manage Cann Station for over 80 years with his family. Survived by a son and a daughter. wife predeceased him. Brother Dr A A McDonald president of Upper Hunter Shire Council is longtime Cann manager.

Li Ching Yun, a Chinese farmer and herbalist born in 1677, died in Kinh-Sien city where he spent decades in meditation. Authorities note his age variously as 256, though his appearance aged 60s, and he attributed longevity to a rare plant found during youth.
At a Waverly Baseball Club dance a raffle with 240 tickets produced a comic sequence. The secretary drew the winner first, then another ticket, then the secretary’s girlfriend, who finally collected the prize amid boos from the crowd.
Milton Kent reports from the Great Barrier Reef that a 30 ft leap by a giant 40 lb mackerel struck a boating party. The fish opened its mouth to soar toward the boat and its teeth ripped flesh from a fisherman. Kent recalls dangerous fishing and his own rowing honors in New South Wales and Queensland.
Crawford defeats Hughes 6-1 1-1 7-5 in the quarter finals at Wimbledon and advances to the semi finals with Vines Satoh and Covhet. Satoh and Selections include Satoh from Japan as next opponent. In mixed doubles Quist and Mrs Pitman beat Cliff and Mrs Shepherd Barron and Turnbull and Miss Jacobs beat Jacobson and Miss Smith. A fire damaged England’s historic wooden Castle Mill on the River Mole in Surrey, dating back to the Doomsday Book.
