Merino Ewe Competition Rules and Postponement Notice

Upper Manilla district announces rules for a Merino Ewe competition under the State Sheep event, detailing eligibility within 30 miles of Upper Manilla Public School, entry numbers by flock size, wool standards, nine month ownership, and flat two shilling entry fee. Municipal Council Meeting Advances Local Projects

The Municipal Council met on Tuesday with Mayor Bowman presiding. Approvals granted for Manilla District Tennis Association to enclose courts, Veness and Son to install electric petrol pumps, and a street stall for the R.C. Church event. Fees for opening footpaths debated. next meeting to consider new charges. Rights to sell on No.2 oval extended to 30 March 1939 with possible cancellation. Mandowa Shire offered £15 for road maintenance to sale yards. road deemed boundary but undedicated. Pipeline work discussed for Mr Bi Maher's property via Alesaunen Lane to relieve trench and septic issues.

Rehabilitation Soldiers Settlers Policy Update

The Minister for Lands Mr Sinclair announces the expert Committee for rural rehabilitation is ready to handle soldier settlers cases. Settlers should apply for revision of indebtedness on form 19 under the Returned Soldiers Settlement Act. The committee will also consider farm reconstruction where needed without further application. Forms available at local Crown Land Agent offices or the Department of Lands Information Bureau or by writing to the Under Secretary for Lands.

Bridge footway extension begins with Granitham contract

Work on the northern pedestrian footway extension has started and is progressing well. The contract is held by Mr. W. C. Granitham and, upon completion, the project is expected to be greatly appreciated by both children and adults.

Council Defers Matter as Bridge Planking repairs proceed

After long discussion the issue was postponed to the next meeting. The Main Roads Department reports arrangements for renewing defective planking on the main bridge footway will be completed soon. Alderman Davis informs action on low level bridge works will be reviewed by Mandowa Shire Council. A traffic dome is approved for two street intersections and a £2 2s 0d donation to Manilla District Hospital will be forwarded.

Australia 2nd Test ends in draw at Lords as Bradman hits 102

Australia finish 216 all out in the chase with Bradman undefeated on 102, passing Hobbs to claim a 14th Test century and a world runs record. Manilla Hospital Board notes monthly finances and patient load

At the Manilla Hospital Board meeting President H V Dowe led a session with trustees A G Veness J N Kennedy G BE Bowman M Park G A White R H Hudson W C Maunder and J D Kennedy. Income for the month totalled £188 16 7 with contributions £86 15 6 donations £36 17 5 patients fees £65 3 8. A credit balance of £106 17 3 remained after £202 2 8 in payments. £78 10 0 of this belongs to the Maternity ward appeal. Savings Bank balance stood at £60 1 8 11 and fixed deposit £1034 5 0. The Matron reported 55 admissions that month, 74 treated to date, 2 remaining at month end, daily average 184 and 12 outdoor patients. Gifts valued to the hospital were received from Mrs Mellrath poultry Mrs J D Kennedy biscuits Mrs R Pari wardens plants F K Wood wall petrol and municipal council flowers. The Finance Committee reconvened with recommendations.
