Pigs in Poor Condition Found Abandoned in Manila Yards
Constable Stanford reported 44 pigs owned by the defendant near West Manila kept in two yards. One yard held 34 half grown pigs with no food or water and little shade. the other yard had nine half grown pigs and one sow, both found unable to stand and lacking shelter. The defendant admitted ownership and claimed to be drafting a feeding plan, with a watchman allegedly tasked to feed. The magistrate imposed a heavy penalty for cruelty due to the neglect affecting many animals.

Return of Plates Fines for Late Vehicle Plate Returns
Samual H. Sing was fined 10 shillings with 12 shillings costs and Gordon Rabbett fined 1 pound with 12 shillings costs for failing to return motor vehicle plates after registration expired. Sing’s lorry plates expired August 27 and were returned November 25, 1952. Rabbett’s motorcycle plates expired October 27 and were returned December 31, 1952.

Bonded for Assault in Namoi Cafe Case
Thomas Melville faced a suspended one month term for assaulting Thomas Brydon in a personal grudge related to a sacking. Brydon required four stitches and had hospitalised recovery. Manilla man granted bond under Crimes Act 556A

Condemned Cattle Fund Tax and Disease Definitions
The General Secretary Mr S Ick-Hewins explains that compensation comes from a cattle tax on sales at 1d in the £, capped at 3d per head, under Acts for cattle suffering from disease such as tuberculosis, pleuro, Johne's disease, actinomycosis, cancer, and tick fever. The Grasier's Association regrets the fund is not a per capita levy and would prefer Pastures Protection Boards collect it to reduce admin. Wheat at Manila Silo Reports Higher Inflow This Season
The Manila Silo manager Mr 3B Hatch reports wheat intake this season at 464 521 bushels, up from 202 556 bushels in 1951/52. Total bushels raised away were 298 816 leaving 202 556 at the silo. Average weight 68 lbs per bushel. Bags received: 57 966 equal to 176 028 bushels. Upper Manila stacks had 13 060 bags or 40 130 bushels. He urges farmers to collect warrants. a conference resolution seeks a more equitable diseased stock compensation system.
