Rural School Anniversary in Manilla 1901 Opening
Before 1900 the Manilla town pound yard housed the rural school on the present Arthur and Court streets corner. Public schooling began at North Manilla in 1811 and by 1806 the town reached about 650 residents. After a two year push, the new site was adopted and opening ceremonies planned for December January 1901. The Premier and Education Minister were invited to officiate, with Foundation Day observed May 9, 1991 amid national nation-building themes.
