Rabaul Bombing Tale From a Former Manilla Boy
Clifford Haydon, an aero engineer writing from New Guinea, recalls the Rabaul attack by 22 Japanese planes dropping 83 bombs. He describes the drome hits, air raid shelters, and a hurried escape by plane into the hills with John Robins, then a run to safety with an armed escort. He notes shrapnel experiences and surviving the night.
