Royal School of
Velvet for coronation robe woven in Suffolk and Essex
Velvet for the coronation gown and funeral pall is being produced by a Suffolk mill in Glemsford and by Warner of Braintree in Essex. The fabric, only 21 inches wide and of rich quality, uses threads so fine they appear nearly invisible on two ancient looms over a century old. Two expert velvets, including Miss Lily Lee, are guiding the work with involvement in royal garments and historic coronations.
