Petrol tax urged for roads in Australia wide drive
The Shire Association reports a Canberra deputation led by Dr. Bowhay and Mr. Casey urged that petrol taxation funds road improvements. They noted petrol tax has grown while road spend remains limited, with 2.37 million to states from the 7.02 million Federal take in 1934-35 and projections of 63 million to the Federal purse over nine years, only 21 million for roads. The campaign seeks motorists’ awareness in garages and local government cooperation.
