Australian War Hero Held On Return Home Blues

Pte. P T Green of Manilla arrived in Sydney on January 27 1944 after four years abroad including Libyan and Greek campaigns and a German prison. Clerical errors delayed his return with a forged rail warrant accusation and a four hour Provost detour left him in custody before authorities cleared his papers. Green's story prompts questions about treatment of returning soldiers and the fairness of such experiences.
