Manilla Council to aid weather shed project in park
North Manilla Municipal Council agreed to assist the North Manilla Progress Association in building a weather shed at North Manilla Park. The association will erect the shed if materials are supplied. Council will provide materials up to £55 if the work is completed within three months per the Building Inspector’s estimate.

Pensioner Rate Payers Get 50 Percent Rebate
Municipal Council voted to again grant a 50 percent rebate on rates for pensioner ratepayers based on the land value of their dwelling. The 1954 estimates include this rebate, and the council will seek a government subsidy covering half the rebate. Over three years, rebates saved pensioners £293 7s 10d, with the government contributing £146 11s 11d.

Play Centre Receives City Support For 1954 Rural School Meet
At Tuesday night’s Municipal Council meeting the National Fitness Council urged cooperation to run the 1954 Play Centre at the Rural School. Readable enrolment figures show total 230 for boys and girls aged 5 to 9 plus 8 and over, with attendance averaging 98.3 percent. Free milk support from the Education Department totaled 450 pints.
