Manilla Mourns Loss of King George VI
The town and district join the nation in mourning the death of King George VI. Pupils observed two minutes silence at school. Half mast flags and purple black mourning displays appeared in shops. Services were held in churches on Sunday as tribute. The mayor sent a message to the Prime Minister of Australia conveying condolences from Manilla and its citizens.

Fire Destroys Fifty Acres Of Grassland
A grassland fire erupted about 6 pm under a sharp storm, engulfing 50 acres. More than 100 volunteers fought the blaze for about ninety minutes, cattle were moved to safety, and the blaze was controlled after one and a half hours. Mr Baldwin was away at the Armidale races and arrived as the fire waned. Messrs John D Kennedy and C Veness named patrons of the Manilla Sub branch of the RSL for 1952.

Obituary of Albert Edmund Roach 59 in 1952
The death occurred in January 1952 of Albert Edmund Roach aged 59. Born at Hillgrove he was the son of the late William Roach of Manilla and formerly Hillgrove, with mother Charlotte Ware of Wallabadah. He married Priscilla Ann Chapman of Halls Creek, who survives. Survived by three daughters Mrs R Bailey Mosman Mrs R J Hall Manilla Mrs N D Kyle Villa and two sons Thomas A Willow Tree Chippendale and William B Manilla. Two brothers E and W H of Somerton and one sister Mrs M Chapman Tamworth also survive.

Memorial Service Discussion at RSL Meeting
The RSL discussed a combined memorial service and decided to leave the final decision to the Executive to confer with the Mayor and local Council leaders. Mr. R. M. Smith proposed an outdoors or open oval venue for public attendance if possible, otherwise services would be held at the Deceased’s local church or Manilla District Hospital.

RSL Sub Branch Sends Sympathy After King’s Death
At the Manilla Sub Branch RSS and AILA meeting last Friday President Duprez spoke on the death of King George VI. Members carried a silence expressing deep sympathy to Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother, and the Royal Family, and pledged loyalty to Her Majesty and a peaceful long reign.

Manilla man charged with DUI and license breach
Frank Warden of The Rangers Manilas appeared in Manilla Police Court on Monday charged with driving under the influence and driving without a current licence. He was granted bail of £20 to reappear at the Manilla Court of Petty Sessions on February 27.
