Grain standards in NSW for 1934 35 wheat crop fixed

The grain trade committee of Sydney Chamber of Commerce fixed the imperial bushel standards for first and second grade wheat for 1934 35 in New South Wales. First grade bagged and bulk wheat set at 61 1 2 pounds per bushel with debates over silo and weight limits. Second grade standard at 57 4 pounds per bushel, up from last year. Sample weighings from across the state showed bagged wheat at 62 pounds and bulk at 60 pounds. Some members urged raising the first grade limit to 62 1 2 pounds to suit silo needs while others argued for maintaining a lower standard. The decision sparked debate among shipping and milling interests.
