Mandowa Shire Council President's Annual Report

Mandowa Shire Council records twelve regular meetings with strong attendance by President Ov M Parle and Deputy President Ov F R Heywood among others. Financial notes show income for 1938 at £13,406 13/3 with end-year projection to £14,000 including rates, grants, and miscellaneous income. The 1938 program focused on road maintenance and trunk road work with bitumen surfacing planned for next year, plus a new low level Namoi River bridge built in cooperation with the Municipal Council. A by-passes program and calls for weeds control continued, while noxious plant legislation began to take effect. Public health remained high with only one infectious disease case. slaughter yards and hospitals received support. A departmental inquiry denied adding Liverpool Plains land to Mandowa. ministers visited Manilla for the bridge opening. The council mourns the death of Mayor and ex-Councillor B C T Bowman after twenty years of service. Administration praised staff and thanks extended to Manilla Express.

Shirleys and Sulphide Fertilizers Reward Offered

A substantial reward is offered for information leading to the conviction of anyone stealing stock poisoning livestock or trespassing on Bloura or Hazel Ban properties. Avihiy Salman cautions against shooting trapping and poisoning and warns that trespassers will be dealt with as the law directs.
