Skeleton weed as sheep feed and profit in Wagga district
Dorset Horn breeder Mr. Alleyn of Alleynside Downside Wagga says skeleton weed can offset lucerne losses in light infestations with heavy super phosphate and stock grazing. Trials show grazing, not exclusion, and that lucerne beats skeleton weed in long run, though weed can be turned to profit with strong fertiliser use and careful stocking. Departmental officer Mr. Carn notes grazing is central, with July to August feeding crucial to prevent seeding and that lucerne offers higher year round bulk and quality.
