Manilla Hero Lieut McDonald Returns From War
Lieut. Donald A. McDonald son of Mr and Mrs Clyde McDonald of Manilla returned home after more than eight years away most of it in Italian captivity. He survived starvation confinement and a dramatic escape from a German train after Bologna and before Sicily. He recounted prison camp life at Sulmona and later Bologna and Naples describing Red Cross parcels hunger and propaganda then the escape attempt that sent 92 officers to freedom in Switzerland.
