Caution Notice on Willamby Property Prohibits Shooting or Trespass

Notice warns that any shooting hunting or interfering with fences on Willamby will be prosecuted without regard to persons and all previous permissions are withdrawn. A substantial reward offered for information leading to conviction of theft stock poisoning trespass on Elo ura or Hazel Draw. Brubb property restrictions extended by A Baldwin.

Meeting of Manilla Show Committee Highlights Group Plans

At the November meeting President V J Byrnes led a discussion on forming a northern group of Show Societies spanning Liverpool Range to Tenterfield and Walgett with a conference at Armidale on December 10 to coordinate trotting, side shows, show dates, booth sales, broadcasting and entry fees. The committee also invited Mr Richins to address meat works at Werris Creek and noted a decision on timing for a sheep show meeting. Local wheat winner R Paterson was congratulated after placing eleventh in the North-West Championship.

Report on show gates and fences leads to tighter supervision

A report recommended increased supervision of gates and fences due to leakage during each show. Minor recommendations were also made, and the report was adopted.

Railway Excursions Plan For State Schools Vacation

The Department of Railways has organized a state wide series of excursions to coincide with the long mid summer break beginning Thursday December 15. Excursion trains will run from all parts of the country with at least one service to and from the city from every station. Return tickets are valid for two months at single fare plus one third for many routes in South Wales except within the Metropolitan or Newcastle Suburban areas. Handbills with timetable concessions can be obtained at local stations.

Periodical Inspection of Electrical Installations

At the last Municipal Council meeting a letter from the Department of Works and Local Government noted a new ordinance under the Local Government Act. Periodical electrical inspections begin January 1, 1939, within five years every connected installation must be inspected, at least ten percent yearly, including aerial lines and appliances. Immediate dangerous defects require immediate disconnection. The Electricity Advisory Committee backs a model procedure for uniform practice among authorities, adopted by Sydney City Council. About 1000 stud sheep owned by J. Whitmill of Wombin near Parkes died after dipping.

Sheep losses rise after dip on Whitmill property

A flock of 1700 sheep passed through a dip on Mr Whitmill’s property causing about 1500 losses and predicting further casualties. Nearby, Mr W Newbigging’s adjoining flock of unknown size lost about 50 sheep from a prior dip. Mr Whitmill summoned Mr McDonald, a veteran official from the western district stationed at Orange.
