Premier promises reopen of Government Savings Bank this week
Mr Lang told a deputation the Government would introduce legislation to reopen the Government Savings Bank, after a Treasury-Audit Office committee found the bank could be re opened profitably. Projected gross earnings were £3,800,000 with £2,650,000 interest and £710,000 expenses, yielding a £470,000 profit and cash interest to depositors, with reserves boosted and political interference eliminated.
