Mt Malcolm gold mine rises again at Crow Mountain

Twenty miles from Manilla, Mt Malcolm near Crow Mountain, an old goldfield, shows renewed activity. The Mt Malcolm company has taken over and built a tenhead battery driven by a suction gas plant that yielded just under an ounce per ton in a 20 ton trial. Tunnels reach rich Dodger, Poitrel, and South Dodger lenses, with plans to drive further and stope ore overhead.

District Roads Send Shire Roads Back To Normal

Wet weather has caused extensive damage to district roads across the Shire. Gully washouts at Byrnes Gap and poor conditions on West Manilla to Five Mile and New Mexico turnoff to Boral hamper travel. The Shire gang is repairing the damage and expects normal roads soon with better weather.

Australian soldier unearths 1882 battle bayonet in Egypt

A Bayonet, described as the weapon used at Tel el Kebir in 1882, was found by an Australian soldier in Egypt in 1916. The dagger came to Melbourne, where the soldier's wife mounted it atop a garden feature. Recently purser W Barfoot bought it aboard a liner at Port Melbourne, claiming it was the Tel el Kebir blade.

Albino Wallaby Showcased at Taronga Park Zoo
