Activities Of Hospital Auxiliary For Year 1953-54
The Manilla District United Hospital Auxiliary presents its third annual report ending June 30 1954 noting nineteen financial members with limited active support. Despite lean numbers, members praise past efforts, highlight successful Christmas tree, street stalls and public support, and plan a Humidicrib project for the hospital. Special thanks to Matron Staples and the late treasurer Mrs Brett, with ongoing banking for heating funds around 250 pounds.

Manilla Farmers and Settlers Association Meeting
The Manilla branch met at the Mechanics Institute with poor attendance. It opposed abolishing Saturday morning trading and urged the Tamworth state member to voice resistance. Delegates were told to oppose a membership fee rise to £5, while supporting a reasonable increase. The branch affiliated with the New State Movement, nominating its president and another member to the executive. Also noted were road pot holes near E. Flett and calls to improve Mechanics Institute seating funded by rent, with council inquiry requested.

The Manilla Caledonian Pipe Band met in the RSL room on Tuesday night. Acting Treasurer J Gallagher reported a year end bank balance of £80 19s 9d on 30 June 1954, with income £290 1s 7d and expenditure £265 13s 8d for the year. Manilla Caledonian Pipe Band Merges and Reports
At a special meeting on 24 September the Manilla Caledonian Society merged to form the Manilla Caledonian Pipe Band. A new constitution was adopted on 6 October and nine months of activity shows successful decisions, regular meetings, and an average attendance of 10.5. The band played at church parades, High land gatherings, Anzac Day marches and Tamworth events, with Burns Night attendance in Tamworth. Members joined and several resigned. finances show equipment purchases and a profitable annual ball and Hogmanay ball. A Sydney Thistle Pipe Band visit on June 13 was lauded, thanks to Don ald McMillan. (Continues page 4).
