Proposed rules for amalgamating Australian Rules and Rugby League

Secretary H R Miller drafts suggested rules for an amalgamated code. Field to be oval 130–? yards long and 100–140 yards wide with goal posts 18 ft 6 in apart and cross-bar 10 ft high. Fifteen players per side with off side rule to permit high marking. Object is to cross the line for a try and to kick goals from field or over cross-bar. A try scores three points. goals two. Play resumes after a goal.

Manilla Falls to East in Rugby Clash at Tamworth

East beat Manilla 16 to 8 in Central Northern final action. East led 8-0 at half time, Manilla rallied briefly before East pulled away with two second half tries and a decisive defense. Notables: D. Case at Lowana Tests Sale Penalty Clause

Claude Wilson sold 20 acres at Lowana to Edward Balzar for £700 with a clause requiring £200 if a butcher or baker set up shop within two years. Ward, a butcher from elsewhere, operated bread sales in Lowana during the last six months, leading Wilson to claim breach. Balzar won at Grafton, judge ruling no business established. on appeal Sir John Warburton upheld, dismissing the appeal with costs.

Counterfeit Coins Found After West End Flat Raid

Frederick A Maher, a Sydney postal worker, reported being jostled outside a hotel by several men who fired twice at him as he fled. Police traced suspects to a West End flat, finding a revolver and a large batch of counterfeit coins, and charged one man with attempted murder.
