Experimental high-frequency egg sterilizer at UC Davis
The Brandon Sun reports on an experimental eight high frequency machine at the University of California farm in Davis California. The device, between radio and diametry in principle, uses oscillations to cook an egg hard in about nine minutes but with a ten second exposure kills the germ and improves keeping quality. The shell bacteria are reduced and the albumen stiffens slightly making yolk stand when cracked. If commercialized it could improve appearance and preservation of eggs though experts make no claims yet.

Clearing German Land Mines From Normandy and Brittany
The search continues for six to seven million unexploded German land mines buried in Normandy and Brittany since D-Day. Since then an average of 200 people, many children, are killed monthly, and by Aug 1 only about one-tenth had been removed by French workers and POWs trained by U.S. sapper teams. The operation is not expected to finish before 1947. An unrelated note warns that an overheated motor may result from a loose fan belt and should be checked seasonally.
