Lye’s Ltd evolves from fire damage to modern MacGregor store

The Lye family rebuilt after a 1943 fire transforming the former garage and wood shop site into a fully modern lumber and building materials store by 1947 with plumbing and heating added later. In 1968 the firm restructured as Lye’s Ltd under Ralph, Glenn and H. A. Lye, extending from a small two-man operation to a major local asset in MacGregor.

Three Bills Pass Easily in the Manitoba House

Three bills received final reading in the Manitoba Legislature on Friday, passing committee stage with little comment. They authorize Brandon to sell land and buildings for its winter fair site, Winnipeg to cut transit fares for pensioners, and set regulations for opposition party leader payments. The Keystone Centre bill would combine the winter fair and summer provincial exhibition at one site and fund new buildings from the sale. A proposed $5 pension raise was raised by Harry Graham to ease transit costs for Winnipeg pensioners, while Saul Cherniack said fare reductions would be funded by the transit system. An attempt by Jake Froese to gain party recognition failed.
