Canada’s First Electric Tug Launches in Lauzon Quebec
The first electrically driven tug built in Canada was launched at Lauzon Quebec for the Chian Pacific Car and Passenger Transfer Company’s Prescott Ontario to Ordensburg New York service. The diesel electric tug features 500 HP diesel engines connected to twin generators delivering 500 kilowatts at 250 volts. A car barge with three tracks for 1600-ton tare will be lashed to the tug’s starboard counter and can be controlled from its wheel-house or the barge bridge.
