Manitoba expands free legal aid to juveniles and most indictable offenses. Law Society of Manitoba anticipates a 40 to 50 percent increase in cases with a $300,000 budget, almost double the prior year. Aid will be available when requested by juvenile court staff or crown attorney and for magistrate court indictable offenses.

Morison will fill the vacancy, with Ison remaining deputy minister since 1968. Walter Boyd also resigns as assistant deputy minister of local development. Joseph P. Cels named new deputy minister of local development.
