First Car Seized Under New Laws
Magistrate Mike Baryluk ordered a vehicle seized and impounded for 14 days after a man was convicted of driving while disqualified and in control of a vehicle. The car, not owned by the accused, faces impoundment unless the owner proves lack of consent or unaware disqualification. This marks the first such court order under the amendment active since July 16. The rule also sets a three month impound period for driving while disqualified in cases involving the convicted person’s own vehicle.
