Wheat Board state ment on fixed price raises questions
The Canadian Wheat Board issued a statement clarifying the 1936 37 fixed price for wheat. It confirms a provisional fixed price of 87 12 cents per bushel for No 1 Northern wheat in store at Fort William, with immediate effect only if the open market price falls below 99 cents. Producers have a stop loss at 87 12 cents, and higher prices would require holding grain at risk of lower returns. The controversy over setting the minimum price continues across Western Canada, with notices of meetings and protests among provincial representatives and farmers. A sale notice for horses, cattle and implements near Lavenham is also listed for September 16.
