Macdonald Base To House New Livestock Operation
Car man mink rancher George W Loeppky announced plans to lease the provincially owned former Macdonald air base for a large scale livestock operation including cattle hogs hens and mink. He seeks a 10 year lease with an option to buy the 1100 acre site and buildings. Water supply is cited as the main hurdle as a service line was cut in 1959. A city delegation pressed province for a solution while industry officials promised to study the issue. The project would create about 65 70 jobs year round with seasonal help.
