Weather, hens, fires, and a town’s autumn tales
The column notes a colder snap and hints of winter after a fickle five month span, mentions Mr. Jack McRae’s peculiar laying hen, and recalls Halloween frights. A grass fire near Mrs. Shaw’s and Walter Allan’s is contained, with the fire brigade getting practice. A benefit dance, turkey shoots, and turkey dinners loom as events, while townsfolk speculate on continued mild weather. A De Havilland mail plane crash north of Austin is cited, along with hay losses from bog fires near Beaver. Local truck pilot Bob Little transports White Motor trucks from Montreal to Regina, flying back for more loads, and several notable town buildings near completion are highlighted.
