Voters are urged to cast ballots Friday October 24 as polls open morning to 5 pm across North Norfolk and MacGregor. The Rural Municipality reeve seat is open after J L Lamb’s resignation. mayoral and council races feature Wm A on and Chas K of svanace plus six councillor nominees.
The MacGregor community gathered for a large Old Town memorial events and Red Shield appeal efforts amid a severe bush fire near MacGregor. The blaze burned about 6 000 acres of bush and woods six miles south of MacGregor, damaging property including 40 cords of cat cordwood and a stack of timber. The Red Shield canvass raised 215.05 for Salvation Army efforts.
Parents mourn the death of their five month old son Andrew Lait Jr after a two week illness that started as a cold and progressed to pneumonia. He died at Portage General Hospital early Wednesday morning October 22. The funeral will be at St. Anglican Church in MacGregor Friday October 24 at 2 30 with interment at Hillside Cemetery Portage la Prairie.
The N. Norfolk and District Branch of the Canadian Legion will hold its annual meeting at the Masonic Hall in MacGregor on Tuesday November 4 at 8 p m. Attendance is urged as this is the most important meeting of the year and punctuality is requested.
Mrs. Clarence Pennell and Mrs. Fred Tarr hosted a pre bridal shower for Hope Stevenson last Friday at Tarr’s home. The event featured yellow decorations and a mock wedding chair, with gifts presented in a playful unwrapping game. Hope expressed thanks before a light lunch was served to about forty guests.
