MacGregor residents share weekend hospitality with relatives and friends from Portage Pine Falls Winnipeg Brandon Kenora Elkhorn and High Bluff. A hospital note mentions W Gilbert a guest at MacGregor hospital and Ruth Dickson wed Kenneth Forcott event noted at High Bluff.
Mr and Mrs. George Remple of MacGregor celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Thursday Nov 3. They will be at home to friends and neighbors from 2 to 5 PM and from 7 to 10 PM.
The MacGregor and District Hockey Association held its annual meeting at the MacGregor rink on Monday October 17. Tarr was reelected president with Glenn Lye as secretary and Larry McDannold as an officer among attendees mostly hockey players.
Kathleen Klassen, two month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Jake Klassen of MacGregor, died in MacGregor on Wednesday October 12. Survived by parents and sister Darlene and a brother Alvin. Funeral held October 14 at 2 pm at Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Austria cemetery interment. McMaster Funeral Home in charge.
Neepawa area fibre board venture at Carberry airport mobilizes wheat straw for Stramit Co Ltd. Hangars hold over 100000 tons with another 100000 tons needed. Farmers receive 12 dollars per ton for delivered straw or eight dollars per ton if handling is arranged.
A fire destroyed the Culbert and Son machine shed and barn on their south Rossendale farm Saturday. Hay and farm tools were lost. a tractor and nearby truck were saved. Neighbors assisted until Portage la Prairie fire crews arrived. A child was found safe after being near the barn entrance. No loss estimate given, partly insured. The blaze started from sparks from burning brush carried by the wind to the shingle roof.
In MacGregor Ontario area election day is Oct 21 but offices were filled by acclamation. Mayor Wenham and aldermen Defort, ONeill, Chant, Fotheringham re-elected. Rural council also unchanged with Hotel reeve and six councillors. MacGregor School Board fills two vacancies with Orchard elected and Wark re-elected alongside Lye Lamb Snaith and A. Wark.
A capacity crowd filled Memorial Hall last Friday for MacGregor Collegiate graduation. Fifteen students officially maxed their high school education with standout talent highlighted by awards from LODE and the school, including recognitions for general proficiency and athletes. Notable honorees included Bonina Firth, Donna Hay, Donna Wark, Wayne Bergquist, Pat Patterson, Bob Briscoe, Kenny Green, and Myrna Nichol, with performances by Myrna Nichol, Karen Butterfield, Beverly Glover, and others.
The MacGregor Mustangs won their fifth straight by beating Gladstone 19 1 at Gladstone. Ken Green, Bob McKelly, and Bob Thompson scored touchdowns, with Len Stewart adding a late two yard score. Wilf Alton and Bob McKelvy stood out on defense and offense.
The valedictorian thanks classmates for the honor and reflects on a three year schooling, citing Greenleaf Whittier's lines about destiny and choice. The speech urges choosing the harder path to success, stressing opportunity creation through diligence, perseverance, and using learned wisdom.
