Agricultural Use of Simazine and Limazine for Shelter Belts
Agricultural representatives report mineral department approval of a weed control plan using Simazine 50W and 4G for ash, elm, caragana and maple trees. Detailed application rates, equipment needs, timing in fall, and safety notes emphasize soil moisture, thorough mixing, end nozzle choices, and a per mile cost in the $9 to $12 range. Limazine presents long lasting control but is not a contact herbicide.
Fire destroys Brandon Packers plant in Brandon
Firefighters battled a fierce blaze at the two story Brandon Packers plant late Friday evening. The building had been shut down amid legal and financial troubles after being sold this year for 180000 to Manitoba Pool Elevators. No injuries reported and a nearby fuel oil tank was kept from exploding. Cattle in a stockyard were moved to safety as crews worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

Manitoba cattle returns hold steady despite fewer sales in 1962
Manitoba beef cattle specialist Bill Henderson says total returns from cattle and calves marketed in 1962 keep pace with 1961 due to higher prices. Fewer animals were marketed so far, but steers fetch about 56 cents a hundredweight above last year, calves less affected, as drought and delayed harvest keep herd expansion and busy farms from marketing.
